What “Community” Means at Buckeye
We do more than create personalized educational experiences -- we make our students a part of a community and give our families the resources needed to better their lives.
Buckeye Community School (BCS) is a place where we build lasting relationships and a unique school community - and where we're an important part of the mid-Ohio community. This means that we believe in you as a student who can both achieve great things and contribute to our community. At BCS, we are a community that cares about each others’ successes, stays committed to finding solutions for every student, and goes the extra mile.
If you’ve been looking for a different type of support to get through high school, a place where you can be your whole self, BCS is the answer. We provide excellent education and create a community where you can belong. Every student at BCS is on their own path, but we're all part of a bigger educational journey. We are connected by the same goal of graduation and earning a diploma. To get you to this goal, we create positive home-to-school and school-to-community relationships that build the web of support you need. And when you achieve your diploma dreams, the community will be there to support you!
What is Community?
The dictionary defines community as a “group of people with a common characteristic or interest...” At BCS, we are a group of students, instructors, specialists, tutors, and administrators with the common goal of earning high school diplomas! Having that shared passion propels us forward together.
Our dedicated instructors get to know you and how you learn best. BCS instructors have experiences as varied as our students, but what binds them into a community is their shared passion for helping students. We’ve helped students achieve their graduation dreams with alternative pathways, flex schedules, 1:1 support, and fresh starts. Together, we make life better by supporting, laughing, learning, and growing in community.
We're more than a school - we're part of the community!
At BCS, “community” also means that we are dedicated to making life better for everyone around us. As mid-Ohio's strongest dropout prevention and recovery school, we are focused on supporting and celebrating every individual at school so they can achieve their dreams and participate in the greater community. That’s why we are connected and partnered with businesses, colleges, and government agencies to find as many opportunities as possible for our students. If a traditional school setting isn’t working for you, but you want to graduate and get started on the rest of your life, check out our credit flexibility program. It might be the solution you have been looking for.
We love bringing our communities together to learn and grow from one another and we’ve found several ways to do this with food. BCS knows that healthy food is the cornerstone of a healthy life, which is why we have multiple Food Programs!
Your brain thinks best when it’s well-fed with the nutritional, energizing food your body needs, and we are delighted to provide our communities with great food. Every student at BCS has free food available in our modern cafes, and they can eat when it works in their schedule.
Throughout the summer, we have been happy to support families in our community by providing fresh, healthy, seasonal food at no cost. In partnership with the mid-Ohio food collective, BCS co-sponsors free produce markets in Marion, Mansfield, and London. Check out our Facebook page for Free Produce Market dates and times, which run through the end of August. The last produce market we sponsored and staffed in Marion served 250 families and we’d love to see more! As fall arrives, we will be opening a food pantry at our Marion school to continue this level of support.
Community = Support
Life definitely gets better with the right support! Whether it’s from your instructors at school, your boss at your job, or the food pantry - it all contributes to your success. BCS is honored and dedicated to building a community where students can find a way to earn their diplomas, create a vision for their future, and take the first steps along that path to becoming who they want to be.
