Join a School That Supports All Aspects of Life
We help students earn diplomas and offer extended support for difficult life circumstances
At Buckeye Community School, a tuition-free high school with locations in Marion, Mansfield and London, our mission is clear — “To create an educational experience through positive relationships that empower every person … to overcome personal challenges and pursue one’s unique goals.” In other words, our mission is one of support.
So what does that mean for you? At BCS, support means…
…our schedule is flexible!
Do you work full time and want to finish your high school diploma? With our flexible scheduling, you can do that at BCS. Just ask Leah, a recent graduate. She said, “Buckeye worked for me because it allowed me to work full-time with the flexible classroom time and the ability to do school work in my free time.” Join us if you want to complete your high school diploma without leaving your full time job.
…we take the time to get to know you as a unique individual.
BCS does not believe in a one-size-fits-all model for school. From the time you enroll at BCS we ask you about your own goals and vision, so that we can help you achieve those dreams. You are in the driver’s seat from day one, creating a plan for your future and working towards that plan with our help.
…we have the social, emotional, and mental health resources to help you thrive!
It’s difficult to come to school and learn when you are dealing with mental health challenges. Whether you had been bullied at a previous school, you are working through tough issues at home, or you need academic support to work with learning differences, we are committed to working with you. We have school psychologists and student engagement specialists available to you on a regular basis so that school becomes a place of safety, a place where you can thrive.
…you don’t have to do any of this on your own.
Maybe you got off track in high school. You know you want to finish your education, but feel very alone as you try to find the right place and learn how to succeed in school. Come to BCS, where you don’t have to do that all by yourself.
We build relationships with each one of our students, getting to know you and helping you create an individual learning plan. We meet with you regularly to review that plan and make sure you stay on track. We walk right alongside you as you complete your degree. Emmalyn, a 2022 graduate, said it better than we can. “Buckeye helped me when I was at my worst and thought all I was going to do was fail. It showed me that I could still complete school and work to get my life to a good place.”
…we create an environment where you will see success early and often.
All of our courses are done on a demonstrated mastery model, which means that you will master the content of each course you take. You will take a single course at a time, allowing you to focus on the subject at hand. You finish courses at your own pace, whenever you demonstrate mastery of the content. That means you can earn credits quickly, proving to yourself that you can do this. No student at BCS is ever left behind in their learning.
…we serve the whole student.
When your physical needs are met, it’s easier to set your mind to your classes. That’s why we provide lunch for all of our students every day for free. Throughout the summer, we offer meal kits free of charge to any students that need breakfast and lunch daily. We know that support means helping to meet all of your needs — academic, mental, emotional, and physical.
No matter what your circumstances right now, we can help you graduate from high school. Visit our website for more information and to enroll. We can’t wait to welcome you to our amazing community!
